On March 31st the Norfolk and Western 611 was rolled out of the North Carolina Museum of Transportation’s shop in Spencer, North Carolina. A fire was placed in her belly for the first time in 20 years. N&W 611’s boiler was successfully tested to her full operating pressure of 300psi. This thoroughbred of steam cleared her throat and is on track for returning to the rails sometime in late summer.
Follow every details of the restoration on Fire Up 611‘s facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/Fireup611. There are several videos on there of 611’s whistle being blown for the first time in 20 years. A big thank you to everyones hard work on the engine. I look forward to chasing #RainbowTiger soon.
